Mark D. Slagle, 61, of Johnson City, died Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at Baylor Medical Center, Dallas, TX, while waiting for a bilateral lung transplant. He was born in Coral Gables, Florida and a son of the late Clay Hart and Roberta Jenkins Slagle. Mark was a 1973 graduate of East Tennessee State University and a 1976 graduate of the Memphis State University School of Law. He was admitted to practice law in Tennessee in 1976 and began his legal career with Slaughter, Jackson, Cooper, and Watson in Bristol, TN. In 1978, he opened his practice as Mark D. Slagle & Associates and in 2009 formed Slagle & Finney, Attorneys at Law. Mark was admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee in 1977, the Supreme Court of the United States of America in 1986, and the U. S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit in 1989. He was a member of the Tennessee Association for Justice, a member and past president of the Washington County Bar Association, and a member and past board member of the Tennessee Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the Federal Public Defender Services. Survivors include: his wife, Linda Arnold Slagle, of the home; daughter, Elizabeth Spurrier, and her husband Johnny, Hendersonville, TN; three grandchildren, Sydney, Graham, and Logan Spurrier, Hendersonville, TN; brother, Dan Slagle, and his wife Judy, Johnson City; brother-in-law, Don Arnold and his wife Linda, Johnson City; sister-in-law, Betty Arnold, Blountville; several nieces and nephews; and their special dog, Lady. The family of Mark Slagle will host a gathering in celebration of Marks life on Saturday, March 16, 2013, between the hours of 4:00 PM and 8:00 PM at the Johnson City Country Club.
