Martha Matherly Hauff

November 10, 1928 — December 17, 2015

Mrs. Martha Matherly Hauff, 87, of Johnson City, passed away peacefully Thursday, December 17, 2015, in the Unicoi County Long Term Care. Mrs. Hauff was a native of Johnson City. She was the daughter of the late Ray and Pearl Puckett Townsend. Mrs. Hauff graduated from Science Hill High School in 1947. She received her Bachelor?s Degree from ETSU in 1980 and her Master?s Degree in 1987. She worked at ETSU for twenty-eight years as both a Secretary in the Education Department and a Professor in the English Department. Mrs. Hauff was an active member for many years at East Park United Methodist Church and First United Methodist Church, as well as with the United Emmaus Community. She also served for many years in various capacities in the United Methodist Women. In addition to her parents, her first husband, Elmer S. Matherly, and second husband, Albert C. Hauff, preceded her in death. Survivors include: her daughter, Dianne Wolfenbarger and her husband Mike, of El Paso, TX; son, Skip Matherly and his wife Celia, of Rome, GA; five grandchildren, Kimberley Wolfenbarger Nakamoto and her husband David, Kelley Bentley and her husband Drew, and Ryan, Delaina, and Russell Matherly; and three great grandchildren, Austin Nakamoto and Chloe and Ethan Bentley. The family of Mrs. Martha Matherly Hauff will receive friends from 5 to 7 PM Monday, December 21, 2015, in the Morris-Baker Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 7 PM Monday with Pastor Lon Tobin officiating. A graveside committal service will be conducted on Tuesday, in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Minister, family and friends are requested to meet at Morris-Baker by 9:30 am Tuesday to go in procession to the cemetery.
