Mary Alice Sanders, 89, of 116 Valley Drive, Jonesborough, entered the gates of Heaven, Friday, December 9, 2005 at her residence following an illness. She was a native of Nashville, daughter of the late Richard W. and Mary Landys Hay. She was retired from the East Tennessee State University bookstore since 1978 and a resident of the area since 1935. She was the widow of Filmore Dillow Sanders since 1962. Mrs. Sanders was a member of the First Church of the Brethern and was a 21 year member and former group leader of the Explorers Bible Study Group. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Filmore D. Sanders, Jr.; a grandson, Paul Sanders, Jr. and a great grandson, Joshua Clawson. Survivors include: five daughters, Nancy Sanders, of the home, Becky S. Ephraim of Jonesborough and Rachel (& Charles) Hopson and Sarah (& Ralph) Isenberg, all of Johnson City and Martha (& Gary) ODell of Limestone; a son, Paul (& Sheila) Sanders, Jonesborough; a sister, Elizabeth Owens, Mobile, AL; two grandsons, Ricky Barnett and Charles Hopson both of Jonesborough; six granddaughters, Lisa Clawson, Loretta Cloyd, Debbie Miller, Kim Vines, Martha Gayle Fillers and Candace Smith; ten great grandchildren; four nephews. A funeral service is scheduled for Sunday, December 11, 2005 in the South Chapel of the Morris - Baker Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. under the direction of Rev. Rufus Smith. Special music will be provided by Kevin Vines. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until time of service at two. A committal service will be conducted in the Monte Vista Memorial Park following the funeral service. Active pallbearers will be: grandsons and grandsons - in - law. Memorials may be made in the form of contributions to: the First Church of the Brethern, 122 Bart Greene Dr., Johnson City, TN 37615.
