Mary Catherine Crockett, 86, of Johnson City, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 25, 2005 at her residence. She was a native of Eastern Shore, Virginia, and had lived in Nassawadox, VA. Mrs. Crockett was a daughter of the late Dr. William Joshua Sturgis and Mary Nottingham Sturgis. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Dr. William J. Sturgis Jr. and John Edward Sturgis, both of Nassawadox. She was a graduate of Longwood College and attended William and Mary College and the University of Virginia. Mrs. Crockett had resided in Johnson City for the past 45 years. She was an active member of Central Baptist Church and the Seekers Sunday School Class. She was a past president of the Johnson City Garden Club, the Sarah Hawkins D.A.R. and the Holston Baptist Women?s Missionary Association. She was a member of the Washington County Medical Alliance and a volunteer at the Medical Center Recovery Waiting Room. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Douglas Crockett, who is retired from the Johnson City Eye Hospital; two daughters, Caroline Scharfstein and her husband, Ben, of Johnson City, and Cam Crockett Solomon and her husband, Lafe, of Bethesda, MD; four grandchildren, Philip Scharfstein and his wife, Rena, of Johnson City, Dr. Ben Scharfstein and wife, Lindi, of Johnson City, and Catherine and Will Solomon, both of Bethesda, MD; three great grandchildren, Lauren and Philip Scharfstein and Benjamin Scharfstein III, all of Johnson City. Mary Catherine requested no memorial service but the family will be receiving friends at Central Baptist Church from 2:00 until 4:00 PM Monday, June 27, 2005.
