Mary Elizabeth Coram

May 27, 1938 — January 29, 2022

Mary “Dootsie” Elizabeth Wright (Coram) passed away on January 29, 2022. She leaves behind brother: John Mansel Wright, three sons: Troy Lee Coram II, Thomas Scott Treadway and Robert Tucker Treadway, daughters-in-law: Mary Beth Treadway and Candace Michelle Coram, grandchildren: Ava Marie Treadway, Mary Elizabeth Treadway, Robert Tucker Treadway, Jr., Harrison Thames Coram & Atticus Knox Coram, as well as an army of other “adopted children” around the world, whom all addressed her as, “Mama Dootsie” (with one particular, and very special set who addressed her as, “Dootsie Mama.”) Dootsie was preceded in death by her daughter: Cynthia Elizabeth Treadway and parents: Harry T. Wright & Nelle Stark Wright.

An avid & brilliant bridge player, Mama Doots will be forever remembered for her brilliant wit, her sass, her incredible chicken & dumplings, her unique passion for bulk buying, her beautiful seasonal decorations... but most importantly, a maternal instinct that attracted legions of friends who adopted her as their second mother. Oh, and she will also be remembered for her outstanding commitment to Velveeta throughout the decades.

Born in Spartanburg, SC, Dootsie, Nelle and adopted father, “Chappie” moved to Johnson City, TN where Chappie served as Chaplain for Mountain Home (Veteran's Administration) from 1946 to 1964. Dootsie's life took her from Johnson City to Knoxville, to Atlanta... back to Middle Tennessee with frequent sojourns in La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, Mexico... where, even there, the locals called her, “Mama Doots.” She made her final home in Hendersonville, NC beginning in 2007.

The family will hold a small celebration for Dootsie in Flat Rock, NC in the near future and requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made “In Memory of Dootsie and Cindy” to: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
