Mary Elizabeth Lilly

Mary Elizabeth (Bettie) Lilly passed away peacefully on December 21, 2001 at the age of 89. She was the daughter of Elijah Davis and Bertha Doffermyre Catterton of Charlottesville, VA. After graduating from Madison College she was employed as a chemist for Dupont Corp. in Waynesboro, VA during the war years and later as a research librarian at the University of Virginia. She was the widow of World War II purple heart recipient Daniel A. Brooker of Waynesboro, VA. In 1948 she married navy veteran William Harold Lilly and supported him throughout his medical practice in Dunn, NC and Ocala, FL. 'Miss Bettie'? was known for her vivacious personality, giving heart, and most of all for her devout faith. Her life reflected the attributes of Proverb 31s virtuous woman. She with her husband are charter members of Living Hope Community Church of Ocala FL. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Ada Lee and Margaret Catterton of Charlottesville, VA, and brother E. D. Catterton, Jr. of Richmond VA. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Dr. William H. Lilly of Ocala FL, brother Johnny F. Catterton of Richmond VA, daughter Betsy Lilly Nelson and son (in law) Robert M. Nelson of Johnson City TN, grandsons Benjamin W. Nelson of Nashville TN, and Robert L. Nelson of Johnson City TN, nephew John D. Catterton and niece Fraser Catterton Finney of Richmond VA, and goddaughter Jeanne Armour of Ocala FL. The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to NHC and Caris Hospice of Johnson City for their excellent care of our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother during the last few months of her life. A memorial service will be held in celebration of Miss Betties life at Living Hope Community Church, Ocala FL.
