Mary Ella Dailey Manning, 81, of 1607 Seward Drive, Johnson City, died Monday, March 21, 2005, at the Johnson City Medical Center. She was a native of Deposit, New York, and had lived in Johnson City the past 56 years. Mrs. Manning was a daughter of the late William J. and Vera Meyer Dailey. She was a member of St. Mary?s Catholic Church. She was a past member of DCCW and past secretary of the Tennessee Folklore Society. She was a sponsor of Alpha Lambda Delta and was active in Girl Scouting. She helped found the Newman Club at ETSU, which became the Catholic Center. Mrs. Manning was an English Professor at East Tennessee State University for 30 years. Survivors include her husband, Ambrose N. Manning; four daughters, Martha Pointer and her husband, Robert L. Pointer Jr., of Johnson City, Mary Louise Eisenbise of Sarasota, Fla., Margaret Casado and her husband, Ricardo, of Knoxville, and Marie Frank and her husband, Gary, of Abingdon, VA; seven grandchildren, Robert Pointer III, Charles Katt, Joseph Eisenbise, William Eisenbise, Matthew Frank, Daniel Frank and Ana Casado; three great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 7:30 PM Wednesday from St. Mary?s Catholic Church. Ftr. Gerard Finucane will be the celebrant. The family will receive friends at the church from 6:00 until 7:30 PM Wednesday. Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Thursday at Monte Vista Memorial Park. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home by 10:30 AM Thursday and proceed to the cemetery. The family suggests for those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary?s Catholic Church, Building Fund, 2211 E. Lakeview Drive, Johnson City, TN 37601.
