Mary Jean Tipton

June 30, 1938 — June 18, 2012

Mrs. Mary Jean Tipton, age 73, of Jonesborough, passed away Monday, June 18, 2012, at the Johnson City Medical Center. Mrs. Tipton was a native of Bakersville, N.C. She was a daughter of the late Simon and Bonnie Honeycutt Street. Mrs. Tipton retired from Washington County Health Department after eighteen years of service. She was a member of Liberty Fellowship Church. Survivors include her loving husband of fifty years, Tony Tipton of the home; two sons, Mark Tipton and his wife, Phyllis, of Cary, N.C., and Todd Tipton and his wife, Cindy, of Elizabethton; one sister, Helen Pauline Ledford, and her husband Charles, of Piney Flats; one grandson, John Tipton, Elizabethton; and one granddaughter, Angela Tipton, Cary, N.C. Jean was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was unflagging in service to her Lord and her church. She adored flowers, especially ones picked for her by Tony. Jean always wore a smile, and characteristically put concern for others happiness and comfort before her own. She will be remembered by friends and family who miss her sweet smile, her gentle laugh, her warm touch and her loving support. The funeral service for Mrs. Mary Jean Tipton will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, 2012, at Morris-Baker South Chapel. The Rev. Dan Foster and Mr. Ron Vinson will officiate. The graveside committal service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at Roselawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Ministers, family and friends are requested to meet at the funeral home by 9:15 a.m. Thursday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday prior to the service.
