Matthew Freeman, age 91, formerly of 1423 North Baxter Street, died Thursday, November 24, 2005, at Lakebridge Healthcare Center. He was a Roan Mountain, TN native who had lived most of his life in Johnson City. He was a son of the late Henry C. 'H. C.' and Dollie Viola Arnett Freeman. Mr. Freeman was a member of the Tacoma Church of God. He was a U.S. Navy WWII veteran. Mr. Freeman was retired from the Mason & Dixon Lines. He was a member of the V.F.W., the Teamsters, the Johnson City Moose Lodge, and the Johnson City Civitan Club. Mr. Freeman was an avid golfer, a wonderful father, and a true friend to those who knew him. He is preceded in death by: two wives, Mary Cloud Freeman and Ava Fisher Freeman; four brothers, David 'Eck' Freeman, Marion Freeman, James J. 'Jim' Freeman, and Frank Freeman; four sisters, Blanche Hubbard, Pauline Sapp, Francis Willis, and Essie Tester; half-brother, John Freeman; and half-sister, Maude Miller. Survivors include: son, Mark Steven Freeman, and his wife Stephanie, Atlanta, GA; daughter, Linda Freeman, of Kennesaw, GA; very special people in his life, Lana and L.D. Bennett, of Gray, Chuck, Teresa, and Sebastian Bennett, of Johnson City, Angie, Matt, and Kayla Johannes, of Jacksonville, FL, and Elmer Hinkle, of Johnson City; sister, Nina Pickering, Gray; two brothers, John Wesley 'Wes' Freeman and George V. 'Paul' Freeman, both of Johnson City; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service for Mr. Freeman will be conducted 7:00 PM Saturday in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Rev. Kenneth Kyker and Rev. Wayne Absher will officiate. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Saturday at Morris-Baker and at other times at the home of Lana and L.D. Bennet, 220 Keeland Drive, Gray, TN. Graveside services will be conducted 1:30 PM Sunday from the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Family and friends will meet at Morris-Baker by 1:10 PM Sunday to go in procession to the cemetery for those services.
