Michael Vance Hughes

January 11, 1947 — June 13, 2015

Michael Vance Hughes, 68, died June 13 after a courageous battle with cancer. Mike was born in Johnson City to Love Lee and Ileen Hughes. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved sister Joy and brother Greg. Mike was an honest, hardworking man-a man with integrity and loyalty. His many friends are a testimony to his willingness to be a friend. His love of fishing was part of his four F?s ? faith, family, friends and fishing. Mike proudly served in the U. S. Navy. He was a member of the Elk?s Lodge No. 1969 in Cartersville, GA. Mike was an entrepreneur, licensed electrician, licensed real estate agent, ?wheeler dealer', husband, father and grandfather. Survivors include: his wife of 45 years, Jenny. His daughter, Johanna and husband Joe Gillispie, two grandchildren who were his pride and joy, Eliza and Trey (Joseph Michael). He leaves behind a dear cousin-brother, Tom Blair and wife, Dawn, also a cousin-sister, Patsy Morelock. Several nieces, nephews, and cousins, also survive, including a father-in-law, Richard Hegler and many special friends. Visiting with family will be held Tuesday, June 16, 2015 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at the Highland Christian Church with funeral service at 3:00 pm. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery following the funeral service. Minster Byron Paddock, a ?brother from another mother', will officiate. Pallbearers will be his friends. The family wishes to thank Dr. Asheesh Shipstone and the wonderful staff at Kingsport Hematology and Oncology as well as Dr. Coen and Wellmont Hospice. In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to: Highland Christian Church, 485 Highland Church Road, Gray, TN 37615.
