Mildred Barlow Prevett

Mildred Barlow Prevett, 93, of Johnson City, passed away Friday, December 18, 2015 in the Johnson City Medical Center. Mildred was a native of Banner Elk, NC who had lived in Johnson City since 1939. She was a daughter of the late Harrison and Lunda Ramsey Barlow. Mildred worked as an accounting clerk at North American Rayon Corporation before her retirement. She had been a member of the Tacoma Church of God since 1941. Throughout those years, she served as the church historian and a children?s Sunday School teacher. Mildred had many interests outside of work and church. She and Bill enjoyed their many travels both in the United States and overseas. For many years she also served as a Crewett ? the women?s auxiliary of the Johnson City Emergency and Rescue Squad ? where Bill volunteered. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William ?Bill' Prevett; and three sisters, Edith Jones, Ruth Raper, and Margaret Collins. Survivors include: two daughters, Sue Widener of Johnson City and Jana Marie Prevett of Bristol; three grandchildren, Kate Holden and her husband LTC Greg Holden, Bill Widener and his wife Amanda Widener, and Capt. Scott Widener; one great grandchild, Payton Marie Widener; two sisters, Esther Barlow and Miriam Archer; several nieces and nephews; and her very dear friend, Jeanetta Allison. The family of Mildred Barlow Prevett will receive friends from 5 pm to 6 pm Monday, December 21, 2015 in the Morris-Baker Oak Chapel. The funeral service will follow at 6 pm Monday under the direction of Pastor Bill Widener. A committal service is scheduled for 12 pm Tuesday, December 22, 2015 in Monte Vista Memorial Park. Minister, family, and friends are requested to meet at Morris-Baker by 11:30 am Tuesday to go in procession to the cemetery.
