Myrtle M. Walker

Mrs. Myrtle M. Walker, age 83, of 906 Harding Avenue, Johnson City, passed away, Friday, October 21, 2011 in the Continuum Courtyard in Johnson City. Mrs. Walker was a native of Bakersville, North Carolina who had lived most of her life in Johnson City. She was the daughter of the late Arthur Howell and Mamie Boone Howell. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband Jack Walker; three brothers, Earnest Howell, Charles Howell and Loyd Howell; two sisters, Dorothy Howell Norman and Margie Howell Carver. Mrs. Walker was a homemaker and was a member of the Heritage Baptist Church. Survivors include: one son, John Walker and his wife Donna of Piney Flats; two daughters, Darlene Walker North and her husband Steve of Sacramento, California and Connie Walker Zakaria and her husband Rami of Elk Grove, California; three brothers, Gordon Howell and his wife Wilma of Spruce Pine, North Carolina, Ben Ray Howell and his wife Pat of Little River, South Carolina and Roy Howell of Little Rock, Arkansas; one sister, Shelby Jean Howell and her husband Mickey of Ashville, North Carolina; four grandchildren, Amber Sullivan, Jennifer Coleman, Summer Zakaria and Jordan Zakaria and three great grandchildren. The funeral service for Mrs. Myrtle M. Walker will be conducted at 8 PM Monday, October 24, 2011 in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Dr. Reggie Weems will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Monday prior to the service. The graveside committal service will be conducted at 1 PM Tuesday in the Roselawn Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Minister, family and friends are requested to meet at the funeral home by 12:15 PM Tuesday to go in procession.
