Nat Dulaney King

July 19, 1920 — January 26, 2006

Colonel (Retired USAF) Nat D. King, 85, 4 Oak Leaf Court, Johnson City, died Thursday, January 26, 2006 in the Johnson City Medical Center following a lengthy illness and battle with Parkinson?s Disease. Colonel King was a native of Bristol, TN and had lived in most of his life in Johnson City. He was a son of the late Carl and Lucy King. Colonel King was a graduate of Science Hill High School in the Class of 1939. He was also a graduate of West Point Academy and completed thirty years of service in the Armed Forces. He was a graduate of E.T.S.U. with a Masters Degree in Business. Colonel King flew a combat tour in Korea for which he was awarded a Distinguished Flying Cross and a Air Medal with one bronze star. He was also awarded the United Nations Service Medal and the Korean Service Medal. At his retirement from the Air Force in 1975 he was awarded the Legion of Merit Medal. He was a Lutheran and a long time member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Johnson City. He was also a member of the American Legion. Survivors include: his wife, Patricia Campbell King of the home; one son, Michael A. King of Johnson City; one daughter, Barbara C. King of Fort Mohave, AZ; five grandchildren, Amber Weir, Adam Weir, and Christin Weir, all of Duluth, MN, Haley King and Turner King, both of Johnson City; several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service for Colonel Nat D. King will be conducted at 12:30 PM Monday, January 30, 2006 in Our Savior Lutheran Church in Johnson City. Pastor James Nipper will officiate. Interment will follow in the Mountain Home National Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be the Primetimer?s Group of Our Savior Lutheran Church. The family will receive friends at the Morris-Baker Funeral Home from 6 to 8 PM Sunday. Military honors will be accorded at the graveside by the V.F.W. Post 3382 of Kingsport. In lieu of flowers the family request that memorials be sent to Our Savior Lutheran Church, P.O.
