Newell Wayne Parker

Mr. Newell Wayne Parker, 87, of Johnson City, passed away Friday, May 6, 2016, after an extended illness. He was born in Greene County and was the son of the late H.G. and Neta McDonald Parker. In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by an infant son and two sisters, Wanda Scott of Chuckey, TN and Marie Killion of Mooresburg, TN. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Betty Kirkpatrick Parker of Johnson City, his son Stephen Wayne Parker and wife Pamela Adams Parker of Kingsport, and grandsons Patrick Adam Parker of Nashville and Shayne Tyler Parker of Kingsport. He is also survived by a brother Marrell Parker and sister Ella Strickland, both of Fall Branch, and several nieces and nephews. He served his country in both the U.S. Air Force and then the Navy during the Korean War. He retired from Eastman Kodak Company after thirty-eight years. Mr. Parker was a long-standing member of Princeton Presbyterian Church where he served as elder for several years. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #486, Shriners, and Scottish Rite where he was active and served for several years. He enjoyed traveling and had been in almost all of the states. Most of all, he was proud of and loved his family and enjoyed family get-togethers. The family of Mr. Newell Wayne Parker will receive friends from 11 AM to 12 PM Tuesday May 10, 2016, at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 12 PM with Rev. Karl Gasser officiating. The graveside committal service will follow in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. The Boone Dam Post # 4933 will accord military honors. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children. The family wishes to extend appreciation to the Veterans Administration and to the staff of Christian Care Center. Special heartfelt appreciation goes to the staff and caregivers of Amedisys Healthcare and Hospice Services of Elizabethton for the faithful and loving care extended to Wayne and Betty over the many months of his hospice care. Thank you for being our ?extended family' and for being by our side till peace came.
