Norman E. Mcgaha

September 9, 1925 — April 7, 2005

Norman E. 'Mac' McGaha, age 79, Johnson City, Tennessee, died April 7th, 2005. He was the son of the late Howard C. and Rosa Mae Gaddis McGaha. Mac was a native of Jefferson County, TN. He had lived in Johnson City for the last 50+ years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church since 1951 and the Asbury Fellowship Sunday School Class. Mac was a veteran who served in the United States Army, 279th Engineers Combat Battalion in the European Theater of World War II. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #486 and was a former member of the Rotary Club. He enjoyed mornings with his friends at the East Main Street McDonald?s. Mac was in the retail/wholesale grocery and soft drink business. He was preceded in death by his sister, Katherine Kerr, of Knoxville. Survivors include his wife, Betty Vineyard McGaha; four children, Betty McGaha Furches and her husband, James Furches, Sue McGaha, both of Johnson City, Dave McGaha, of Oveido, Florida, J. Michael McGaha and his wife, Sandra Crutcher McGaha, of Johnson City; one brother, James Howard McGaha, of Hartwell, Georgia; four grandchildren, Jeff Furches, of Portland, Oregon, Craig Furches and his wife, Ashley, of Daytona Beach, Florida, Cassie McGaha and Amie McGaha, of Johnson City; three great-grandchildren, Stephen Furches and James Furches, of Portland, Oregon, and Mackenzie Furches, of Daytona Beach. Memorial services for Mr. McGaha will be conducted at 3:00 PM Sunday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bill Wells and the Rev. Garland Thayer officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:30 until 3:00 PM prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to First United Methodist Church Capital Fund, 900 Spring St., Johnson City, TN 37604.
