Norman F. Pond

February 22, 1921 — January 30, 2013

Norman F. Pond, 91, of Johnson City, died January 30, 2013. A native and long time resident of Boston, MA, Norman was the youngest of 6 siblings born to the late George and Catherine Pond. Although he spent much of his life in the Dorchester section of Boston, he also spent some of his formative years on his uncles farm in rural New York State, and earlier retirement years in Plainville, MA. Mr. Pond was a US Army veteran of WW II, having served in the Pacific theater in various transportation units. He was employed for 30 years as a meat cutter in the Boston meat market. Post retirement, he worked as a building superintendant at Kit Clark Senior Center, Dorchester, MA, where he used the skills of building and repairing, which was a lifelong avocation. His beloved wife of 62 years, Patricia Brill Pond, a son, Jerome Allen, and siblings Olive, Waldo, Robert, Viola Pond Nickolson, and Louella Pond Decker preceded him in death. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Susan and TJ ONeil, Johnson City, TN; granddaughters, Annette L. ONeil, Salt Lake City, UT and Gwen E. ONeil Beaudet, Manchester, NH; great-grandchildren, Camden William Beaudet and Gabriella Patricia Beaudet, Manchester, NH. Mr. Pond also has numerous loving relatives and friends in New York, Alaska, and Massachusetts. The ONeil family would like to thank the many wonderful caregivers, neighbors, and support staff at Appalachian Christian Village and Magnolia Crossing for their help in the care of Norman and Patricia Pond. A special thanks goes to the compassionate nursing and support staff of 4500, JCMC, and Mountain States Hospice. A private service will take place at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to the Washington County Animal Shelter, 525 Sells Avenue, Johnson City, Tn. 37604 or the charity of your choice.
