Odie Smith

September 21, 1920 — July 13, 2007

Odie Smith, 86, formerly of 1208 Baxter Street, Johnson City died Friday, July 13, 2007 at the residence of her daughter Janice Sloan , 5722 County Highway 33, Rosa, Alabama. Mrs. Smith was born and raised in Nashville, TN until the age of sixteen. She was a daughter of the late Golston Crouch and Sara Mai Pruitt Hand. Mrs. Smith was the mother of six children who she loved and they loved her dearly. Four of her sons served in Vietnam, all at the same time. She was a very loving and charitable person who loved to dance, sing and cook. She was a member of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Smith is also preceded in death by: her husband, Jack W. Smith, Sr. in 2002; three sisters, Etta Mae Marchall, Mildred Hand, and Ruby Hand. Survivors include : a daughter, Janice Sloan of Rosa, AL.; five sons, Jackson W. and wife Shirley Smith of Adamsville, AL, Jeffrey W. and wife Carol Smith of Jonesborough, TN, Joseph W. and wife Joann Smith formerly of Johnson City, James W. and wife Joy Smith of Johnson City, TN, Jesse W. and wife Jan Smith of Jonesborough, TN; a niece, Beverly Butram of Nashville, TN; a nephew, William Stout of North Carolina ; twenty grandchildren; twenty-four great grandchildren; and five great great grandchildren. A funeral service for Odie Smith will be conducted at 2 PM Monday, July 16, 2007 in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Brother Donny Reagan will officiate. Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum at Roselawn Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will selected from family and friends. The family will receive friends at Morris-Baker from 6 to 8 PM Sunday.
