Paul J. Hackbarth Jr., age 81, 4 Wilmar Circle, Johnson City, died Sunday, May 22, 2005, at North Side Hospital. Mr. Hackbarth was born August 7, 1923, in Detroit, Michigan to the late Katherine Doran and Paul James Hackbarth Sr. He lived most of his life in Ann Arbor, Michigan, before relocating to the Johnson City area forty years ago to work for Hoover Universal as a mechanical engineer. He retired as a quality control manager. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp. continental as well foreign services. He was honorably discharged in 1946. He was a member of the Bethlehem United Church of Christ in Ann Arbor and attended First Methodist Church in Johnson City. Mr. Hackbarth was an avid golfer and a proud graduate of the University of Michigan. In addition to his parents, two daughters, Jane H. Leslie and Carol H. Clare, preceded Mr. Hackbarth in death. Survivors include: his wife, Jean McKinney Hackbarth, of the home; four stepsons, Michael Allen and his wife, Dana, Keith Allen and Madison Allen, all of Johnson City, and Ronnie Allen and his wife, Vickie, of Greer, SC; 11 grandchildren, Michael Paul Clare and Elizabeth Clare, both of Clinton, CT, John Paul 'Jack' Leslie, of Indianapolis, IN, Shea, Arjuna, Lacey, Whitney and Nicholas Allen, all of Johnson City, and Jordan, Mitchell and Mac Allen, all of Greer, SC; sister, Joyce Burdick and her husband, Dick, of Ann Arbor, MI; and brother, Donald Hackbarth and his wife, Lisa, of Ann Arbor, MI. The family of Paul J. Hackbarth will receive friends from 11:30 AM to 1:30 AM Friday at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. Following the visitation, family and friends will proceed to the U.S. National Cemetery at Mountain Home for committal services. Mr. Steve Hill, minister, will officiate. Honorary pallbearers will be: Dick Johnson, Jim Thompson, Clyde Cooper, Wilbur Kennedy and Dr. Bud Range. VFW Post #3382 will provide military honors.
