Ray W. Johnson

Mr. Ray W. Johnson, 92, of Johnson City, passed away Friday, March 11, 2016. Ray was born in Burnsville, NC; but had spent most of his life in Johnson City. He was the son of the late Elzie and Molt B., Sr. In addition to his parents, his wife Mary Lee preceded Ray in death; three brothers: Bobby, Molt B., Jr., and Ward. He was a U.S. Navy veteran having served in WWII from 1941 to 1945. Ray retired from Eastman Kodak after thirty-four years of service. He was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include two daughters, Donna Sue Sheppard and husband Richard and Nancy Neal and husband Tom; one son Ray Gordon; five grandchildren, Renee Sheppard, Richie Sheppard, Samantha Sheppard, Courtney Johnson, and Leigh Ann Gibson and husband Bruce. Two great grandchildren, Brianna Jeffers and Colton Gibson; two great-great grandchildren; two brothers, Gay and Ted and several nieces and nephews. The family of Mr. Ray W. Johnson will receive friends from 5 to 7 PM Tuesday, March 15, 2016, in the Morris-Baker Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 7 PM with Pastor Curtis Hurt officiating. The graveside committal service will be conducted at 3 PM Wednesday in the Roselawn Memorial Park. The Boone Dam Post # 4933 will accord military honors. Minister, family and friends are requested to meet at the cemetery by 2:50 PM Wednesday.
