Richard Allen Garner

April 28, 1957 — October 1, 2019

Richard Allen Garner, 62, of Johnson City, Tennessee died Tuesday, October 1,2019 at his home following a lengthy battle with Myasthenia Gravis. Born in Swindon, England, he was the much beloved son of the late Lloyd Sterling Garner and Norma Middleton.
Mr. Garner moved to Johnson City in 1994 from Mission Viejo, California where he was employed by McDonald Douglas Aircraft for many years. He attended Cal Poly Tech in San Luis Obispo, CA where he met Ann, his wife of 32 years. A born traveler, Mr. Garner lived in Europe and the Middle East before settling in the United States in 1975. He was most recently employed by the A. 0. Smith Corp. where he also traveled to many areas in the US, Europe and India.
Richard proudly served in the US Air Force where he was assigned to the Titan 2 Missile Program at Vandenberg, CA.
Besides his family and friends, Richard liked nothing better than reading a good book, golfing, fishing and watching the water go by from the back deck of a ship.
Richard is preceded in death by his youngest sister Peggy.
He is survived by his wife Ann, daughter Kristie, and son Chuck of Johnson City, grandson AJ of Norwalk, CA and sister Cheryl Walker of Chino Hills, CA, an uncle Gary Perdue of Redondo Beach, CA, niece Jenny Gierman of Chino Hills, CA, nephew Daniel Walker of Carlsbad, CA, nephew Richard Walker of Chino Hills, CA, nephew Cory Gude of Lomita CA, many cousins in CA, England, the USA and Australia.
Many thanks go out to the fifth floor nurses and the dialysis lab nurses of the JCMC, as well as social worker Kim Jackson and the excellent hospice care team. Additional thanks to Dr. Charles Famoyin, Dr. Christina Hutchins, Dr. Rob Whaley, and each doctors staff, you have our eternal gratitude for your kindness and care of Richard.
A private funeral will be held at a later date.
