Richard "Rick" Carr

December 15, 1953 — February 19, 2020

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life. “ John 5:24 KJV

Richard D. “Rick“ Carr, 66, of Johnson City, entered through the gates of Heaven into his eternal home on Wednesday, February 19, 2020.

He was a native of Washington County, son of the late Charles E. Carr Sr. and Betty J. Walker.

Rick was a loving man who never knew a stranger. Those he met respected him for his kindness and his genuine care, and he is an important missing piece in the lives of many. He wanted everyone he met to know they were loved, first and best by his savior Jesus Christ who he was always ready to talk about.

In his mission to spread God’s love, Rick was a very active member of the Watauga Flats Church of God. He went wherever he was needed there, serving as a sound tech, office administrator, occasional service director, and everything in-between. He was happy to serve his church family any way that he could.

Outside of church, his earthly family was the light of his life. He spent 35 years looking after the health of his wife, Judy, with attentive care on the bad days and with a smile and thankfulness on her better days. His daughters and granddaughters filled his time and he wouldn’t have had it any other way.

He loved to take Beach trips with his family, and served as a patient teacher to his granddaughter when it came to playing guitar. As a diehard UT Vols fan (for better or worse) and sports fanatic, Rick also spent his fair share of time teaching them the ins and outs of baseball, softball, basketball, or anything else they wanted to play. His granddaughters were very special to him, and he lovingly gifted them each with their own special nicknames.

In addition to his parents, Rick is preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Judy L. Carr; maternal grandparents, Kenneth and Hazel Walker, and paternal grandparents, Crockett L. Carr and Nannie Feathers Carr, whom he lovingly called “Granny Carr”.

Those left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Jennifer Carr and her spouse Ricky Smith, Heather Carr and her spouse Roger Lee, Vickie Carr and her partner Aaron Magana; grandchildren, Maisie Smith, Makenzie Smith, and Mikayla Lee; siblings, Diane Bishop and special brother-in-law Harold Bishop Sr., Shannon Jackson and Charles Carr Jr.; step-parents, Lockey Carr and Bud Jackson; several nieces and nephews; many cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends; and his furbabies, Ringo and Buddy, a.k.a. “his boys”.

The family of Rick Carr will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Monday, February 24, 2020, at Morris-Baker funeral home. A funeral service will follow at 7:00 PM officiated by pastors Estel Williams and Lester Guinn. A committal service will be held on Tuesday, February 25, 2020, at 11:00 AM. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Those attending are asked to gather at the graveside by 10:50 AM.
