Robert Junior Garland, 91, of Johnson City passed away at the Hermitage Nursing Home Monday, March 24, 2014. He was the son of the late Hobert Robert and Mae Hughes Garland. He was born in Bakersville, North Carolina August 22, 1922. Robert was a proud Army veteran and served in France and Germany during World War II. He was a member of the Martindale Baptist Church in Johnson City and retired in 1972 from the engineering department of the Mountain Home VA Medical Center. He is survived by: daughter, Nelda Sue Humphreys Cooper (husband David); two grandchildren, Landon and (wife Kelli) Humphreys, Sarah and (husband Chris) Wooten; step grandson, David and (wife Tara) Cooper; great grandchildren, Jackson and Hayden Humphreys, Austin, Elijah and Emma Wooten, Luke and Chloe Cooper; sister, Dixie Gouge; two brothers, Mack and (wife Mary Sue) Garland, Bruce and (wife Betty) Garland; sister-in-law, Brenda Garland; a host of nieces and nephews. Robert is preceded in death by: wife, Evelyn Ayers Garland; two brothers, Carl Garland and George Garland and his wife Pansy; three brother-in-laws, Ralph Gouge, Burke Ayers and J.B. Runion. The family of Mr. Robert Junior Garland would like to give specials thanks to Connie Glaser (special VA nurse) for her care and concern, Dr. Vivian Clark and all the loving and caring staff of the Hermitage Nursing Home. In lieu of flowers, the Garland family is requesting donations in memory of Robert Junior Garland to be made to: Bancroft Bible Camp, 141 Bancroft Private Drive, Kingsport, Tennessee 37660.
