Rosaly Hunter Alan, 99, of 3209 Bristol Highway, Johnson City, Tennessee died Tuesday, January 22, 2008 at NHC Healthcare, formerly Colonial Hill Nursing Home. She was a native of Ossining, New York but had lived in Johnson City for the past 15 years. Rosaly had lived all over the world with her husband Robert Alan who preceded her in death in 1992 having served as a Colonel in the Air Force. Rosaly had a great zest for life, was an avid tennis player well into her eighties, and will be remembered for her keen wit and love of a good joke. Wherever she lived she taught painting which was her lifes passion. When she first came to Johnson City she taught private lessons until Macular Degeneration prevented her from continuing. She had resided at Colonial Hill retirement Center where she was a happy and congenial resident and even taught Hula dancing to the friends around her. Her father was a noted New York City artist, F. Leo Hunter. Her mother was the late Frances Rose Hunter. Mrs. Alan attended New York University, Columbia University and Stanford University working on a degree in advertising and journalism. She was a member of St. Johns Episcopal Church in Johnson City, Tennessee. She had been regent of The Mohigan Chapter of The Daughters of the American Revolution in New York State. Rosaly was always very involved with the Women of the Church in the Episcopal Church wherever she lived. She is survived by one daughter, Coralie Alan Morgan of Asheville, North Carolina; two grandsons, Robert Alan Tweed of Dallas, Texas and David Andrew Tweed of Memphis, Tennessee and one great grandson Dillon Tweed also of Dallas. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Animal Shelter, 525 Sells Avenue in Johnson City or to a Humane Society in your community; or to Caris Hospice, 1409 West Market Street, Johnson City, TN 37604 or to your local Hospice; or to the Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy, 34 Wall Street, Suite 502, Asheville, North Carolina 28801 Burial will be at the United States Military Academy Cemetery at West Point, New York.
