Rose Dequino Bawgus

December 21, 1916 — February 24, 2009

Mrs. Rose DeQuino Bawgus, 92, 2419 Vine Street, Johnson City, died Tuesday February 24, 2009 in the Johnson City Medical Center. Mrs. Bawgus was a native of Coalwood, West Virginia who had lived most of her life in Johnson City. She was the daughter of the late Louis and Mary Schrader DeQuino. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her loving husband of fifty-six years Jack Bawgus in 1995; two brothers, Tony and Ed DeQuino; one sister, Martha Rose; one grandson, Travis Durham. Mrs. Bawgus was a homemaker. She was an active member of the Walnut Christian Church. Mrs. Bawgus was known for her love of cooking. She loved needlework, crocheting, sewing and embroidery and she sold her crochet work while her children were growing up. Survivors include: four daughters, Norma Jean Durham and her husband Chester of Johnson City, Nancy Seger and her husband Lynn of Jonesborough, Carolyn Adams and her husband Larry of Johnson City and Marie Fields and her husband Jeff of Johnson City; three brothers, Sam DeQuino of Bartley, West Virginia, Louise DeQuino of New Castle, West Virginia and Johnny DeQuino of Bluefield, West Virginia; one sister, Mary Brown of Sophia, West Virginia; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; several great nieces and great nephews. The Funeral service for Rose DeQuino Bawgus will be conducted at 8 PM Friday February 27, 2009 in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Mr. Tim Carlson will officiate. Chris Carlson will provide music. The committal service will be conducted at 11 AM Saturday in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Minister, family and friends are requested to meet at the funeral home at 10:30 AM Saturday to go in procession. The family will receive friends in the funeral chapel from 6 to 8 PM Friday prior to the service. In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial contributions be made to the Walnut Christian Church Building Fund, 2318 South Greenwood Drive, Johnson City, Tn. 37604.
