Roxie Lee Porter

August 13, 1925 — July 2, 2005

Roxie Lee Porter, 79, died Saturday, July 2, 2005, at NHC Healthcare. A native of Washington County, she was a daughter of the late Charlie Milhorn and Creed Whaley Milhorn Hodges. She was a member of Piney Grove United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her step-father, Weldon Hodges; two sisters, Juanita Hopkins and Clara Thornton; five brothers, Charles Hodges, Howard Hodges, Samuel T. Milhorn, C.W. Milhorn, and G.D. Milhorn. Survivors include a son and daughter-in law, Walter and Susan Whaley, Elizabethton; a former daughter-in-law who was very special to her, Wilma Dean Whaley, Johnson City, two sisters, Kate Hensley and Louise Tucker both of Johnson City; her brother, Gary Milhorn, Johnson City; three grandsons, Howard Lee Whaley, Charles Whaley, and Ricky Cobb; six great grandchildren, Nikkie Whaley, Walter Floyd Whaley, Shayne Paul, Jessica Whaley, Erica Cobb, and Heather Cobb; five great-great grandchildren and a special, faithful friend, Mitsi Rogers. Several nieces and nephews also survive. A funeral service for Roxie Lee Porter will be held on Wednesday, July 6, 2005 at 8:00 PM from the South Chapel of Morris-Baker Funeral Home. The Reverends Lon Tobin and Lennie Smith will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. A committal service will be held on Thursday, July 7, 2005 at 11:00 AM at Monte Vista Memorial Park. Kenneth Collins, John Henson, Jerry Hardin, Maynard Holloway, John Hodge, and Randy Rogers will serve as pallbearers. Friends and family are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:30 to travel to the cemetery in procession.
