Ruth Light Carder

Ruth Light Carder, 88, of Johnson City, died Friday, December 19, 2014 in the Johnson City Medical Center. Ruth was native of Fall Branch and a daughter of the late Hugh and Gladis Light. She retired from Rolffs Cafeteria and Appalachian Christian Village after many years of providing wonderful home-cooked meals to the public. She specialized in fried chicken, country-fried steak, biscuits and gravy, and soup beans and cornbread, her last meal. Ruths love of family, friends, and strangers was her greatest joy. Her giving spirit showed Gods love to everyone she met. Ruth dearly loved all of her grandchildren. She was a member of the Third Church of Christ and attended Oak Grove Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: her husband, James Edgar Carder; four brothers, Paul M. Light, Haynes Light, Carl Light, and Charlie Light; one sister, Rose Lee Light; son-in-law, Grant Gregg; and great granddaughter, Elaina Mitchell. She is survived by: one son, Joseph Carder and his wife Jamie; two daughters, Rose Gregg, and Rita Tucker and her husband Jesse; six grandchildren, Johnny Gregg, Teresa Shaw, Lisa Mitchell, Monica Mitchell, Laura Blake, and Leslie Judson; five great grandchildren, Grant Gregg, Summer Shaw Vittatoe, Brandon Shaw, Davis Blake, and Erin Blake; five great great grandchildren, Tayleigh Vittatoe, Nevaeh Vittatoe, Keedyn Vittatoe, Rozalynne Vittatoe, and Harleigh Gregg; several nieces and nephews; and special friends Debbie Tesneary and Charlie Maricle. The Carder family wishes to extend a special thank you to the caring staff of Franklin Woods Emergency Room and Hospital and Johnson City Medical Center ICU. The family of Ruth Light Carder will receive friends from 5 pm until 7 pm Tuesday, December 23, 2014 in the Morris-Baker Chapel. The funeral service will follow at 7 pm Tuesday in the chapel. Pastor Sherril Nave will officiate. Special music will be provided by Bart Richardson and Jamie Carder, and pianist, Linda Tucker. The committal service is scheduled for 10:45 am Wednesday, December 24, 2014 in Mountain Home National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Minister, family, and friends are requested to meet at Morris-Baker by 10:15 am Wednesday to go in procession to the cemetery.
