Sam Henry Garst

Sam Henry Garst, 86, 925 Hawley Road, Blountville, died Tuesday, November 27, 2007 in the Bristol Regional Medical Center. Mr. Garst was a native of Sullivan County who had lived most of his life in Sullivan County. He was the son of the late Pierce and Bertha Wine Garst.In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by one sister, Georgie Jones; two brothers, John and Paul Garst. Mr. Garst was an Electrician. He was a member of the Knob Creek Church of the Brethren, which he loved very much. Sam was a devout Christian and family man. He loved to work around the house and in his garden. He thought the world of his two dogs Lady and Lucy. Sam played basketball and baseball for Holston High School, he also was a 'Big'? UT sports fan. Survivors include: his wife of 52 years Mabel Risby Garst; two sons, Sam Garst, Jr. and Terry Lynn Garst, of the home; two sisters, Helen Jones, of Piney Flats and Winnie Sproles, of Blountville; one brother, Wilber Garst and his wife Christine, of Blountville; several nieces and nephews. The funeral service for Sam Henry Garst will be conducted at 3 PM Saturday, December 1, 2007 at the Pleasant Hill Church of the Brethren, Blountville. Rev. Allen Campbell and Rev. Dan Case will officiate. The graveside service will follow in the Pleasant Hill Church of the Brethren Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be: Danny Garst, Mike Garst, Paul Garst, Jr., Sam Jones, Tom Donaldson and Lynn Smoke. Honorary pallbearers will be: James Henry Garst and Donald Shepard. The family will receive friends in the Church from 1 to 3 PM Saturday prior to the service.
