Silas Mccurry

June 10, 1923 — July 14, 2007

Silas McCurry, 84, 906 North Boone Street, died Friday, July 13, 2007 at the Johnson City Medical Center. Mr. McCurry was a native of Yancey County, NC and had lived most of his life in Johnson City. He was a son of the late Wash and Annis Wilson McCurry. Mr. McCurry was preceded in death by three sons, Bascomb McCurry, David McCurry and Carol McCurry. He was a Korean War US Army veteran. Mr. McCurry was member of Piney Grove Free Will Baptist Church. He was a retired employee of the Johnson City Foundry. Survivors include his wife Shirley McCurry; four daughters, Pauline Ward, Johnson City, Ruth Rogers, Greeneville, Annis McCurry, Johnson City and Susanna Byrd, NC; one son, Silas McCurry, Jr., Newport; one sister, Viola McCurry, NC; eighteen grandchildren: twenty seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service for Mr. McCurry will be conducted at 8 PM Monday, July 16, 2007 from the Morris-Baker Funeral Home South Chapel. Reverend Paul Crowe will officiate. Graveside services will be held at 10 AM Tuesday at Roselawn Memorial Park. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the funeral home at 9:30 AM and travel in procession to the cemetery. Pallbearers will be Thomas Evans, Lawrence Salts, James Byrd, Jr., John Register, Ricky Ward, Jr., Ricky Ward, Silas McCurry, Jr., Teddie Robbins and James Byrd, Sr. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Monday at the funeral home.
