Stuart Edmund Wood, Jr.

Mr. Stuart Edmund Wood, Jr, 72, 2064 Feathers Chapel Road, Blountville, passed away Friday May 28, 2010 at his home. Mr. Wood was a native of Bristol. He was the son of the late Stewart and Bertha Bratton Wood. Mr. Wood graduated from East Tennessee State University after attending Virginia Tech. He was a proud member and leader of Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church following in the footsteps of his grandfather, a circuit-riding Methodist minister. He loved learning, building and constantly sought to achieve more and do more. He was a tireless business and community leader, starting, founding and operating the following businesses: Bonanza Mobile Homes, Holston Companies, Holston Distributing Company, Warehouse Central, Truck Central, Records Storage and Management Central, Bowman Wood Development and Woodbridge Development. He volunteered and served on many boards and in many organizations including: Mountain Commerce Bank, Chairman of the Board, Northeast State Foundation, East Tennessee State University Foundation, Pirate Club, Chamber of Commerce, Johnson City Senior Citizens Advisory Committee, Economic Development Board, Johnson City Power Board, Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency Commission. Mr. Wood was devoted to his family and a loyal friend to many. He was deeply loved and will be sadly missed. Survivors include: his wife Brenda Wood of the home; one son, Frank Wood; one daughter, Meredith Seeley; one sister, Velva Wreden and her husband Peter; three grandchildren, Emma, Shelby and Owen Seeley; housekeeper and special friend, Glenda Addison. In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial contributions be made to Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church, 201 East Market Street, Johnson City, Tn. 37601. The funeral service for Mr. Stuart Edmund Wood, Jr. will be conducted at 5 PM Monday May 31, 2010 in the Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church. Rev. Brian Taylor and Rev. Michael Lester will officiate. A private entombment service will be conducted Tuesday in the Glenwood Cemetery in Bristol, TN. Active pallbearers will be Dick Pectol, Charles Hand, Roscoe Bowman, Wendell Kirk, Pal Barger, Dave Jordan, Lloyd Yonce, Mike Hubbard, Steve Montano, Keith Smith, and Mark Broderick. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 PM at the church prior to the service.
