Sue Powell Carr Eckstein

Mrs. Sue Powell Carr Eckstein, 83, 118 Ridgemont Road, Johnson City, died Wednesday, June 24, 2009 at her residence. Mrs. Eckstein was a lifelong resident of Johnson City. She was the daughter of the late Paul B. and Ann Cass Carr. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband William E. Eckstein; one sister, Ann Cass James. Mrs. Eckstein was a homemaker and a very active member of her community. She was a lifelong member of Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church, a charter member of the Junior League of Johnson City, a charter member of the House and Garden Club, a member of the Merry Wives, the first admitted female active member of the Cherokee Country Club in Knoxville, the Johnson City Country Club and Farmington Country Club in Charlottesville, VA., the John Sevier Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a graduate of Stephens College and was a founding partner of WKXT television station in Knoxville. She was an avid golfer, bridge and mahjong player. Survivors include: five sons and four daughters-in-law, Paul David Walker of Johnson City, Grover Dean and Margaret G. Walker of Great Falls, VA, Gaines Cass and Susan M. Walker of Knoxville, Robert Carr and Yadira B. Walker of Jersey City, New Jersey and John Powell and Lin B. Walker of Nashville; nine grandchildren, Philip Dean Walker, Amanda Powell Walker, Mary Gaines Walker, Hannah Lee Walker, Abigail Karen Walker, Robert Edward Blanco Walker, Eric Bernard Blanco Walker, Sophie Rose Walker and Danielle Rae Walker. In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial contributions be made to Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church, 201 East Market Street, Johnson City, Tn. 37601. The funeral service for Mrs. Eckstein will be conducted at 2 PM Sunday June 28, 2009 at Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church. The Rev. Michael Lester and the Rev. Brian Taylor will officiate. The graveside committal service will follow at Monte Vista Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be: Henry Thomas Carr, Robert Ward Bagby, Ben D. Hall, M.D., Robert Edward Blanco Walker, Eric Bernard Blanco Walker, Philip Dean Walker, Henry Thomas Carr, Jr. and Ashley Gibson Carr. The family will receive friends at Morris- Baker from 6 to 8 PM Saturday.
