Sylvia Hicks Johnson, 90, 1708 Lester Harris Road, died Tuesday, March 22, 2005, at the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital. Mrs. Johnson was a native of Carter County and had lived in Johnson City since 1932. She was a daughter of the late John Wesley and Laura Ellen Rice Hicks, and was also preceded in death by her husband, Garfie William Johnson; one daughter, Joyce Gouge; one granddaughter, Christine Gouge; five sisters, Lurley Gwen, Burley Bradshaw, Kate McKweehan, Geneva Livingston and Ina Taylor; two brothers: William 'Bill' Hicks and Kenneth Hicks. Mrs. Johnson was a homemaker. She was a member of Johnson City Church of God. Mrs. Johnson is survived by two daughters: Georgia Marie Cope and her husband, Jack, Southgate, Michigan, and Charlotte 'Jean' McInturff, Johnson City; one son, William H. Johnson and his wife, Betty, Johnson City; one sister, Eula Blanche Barnes, Johnson City; twelve grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; nine great, great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service for Mrs. Sylvia Hicks Johnson will be conducted at 8 PM Friday at the Johnson City Church of God. Reverend C. Bryant Collins, Reverend Hobart Bradshaw and Reverend Bobby Merritt will officiate. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday at Roselawn Memory Gardens. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Friday at the church. For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Johnson City Church of God, 1908 Indian Ridge Road, Johnson City, TN 37604.
