Mrs. Teresa Ann Leonard, 68, Piney Flats, TN, passed away Wednesday, December 23, 2015, at home after a brief and short-term illness due to cancer. Mrs. Leonard was originally from Beckley, WV. She was a graduate of Marshall University and finished her Masters Degree in Education at ETSU. Mrs. Leonard was a highly awarded teacher in the Washington County, TN Department of Education and a well-known and decorated principal at Boones Creek Elementary School. Her awards of recognition included in her successful career were: Tennessee Teacher of the Year for four years in a row; Boones Creek Elementary Clean Team award multiple times; Governor Awards for highest percentage increase on childs scoring achievement, four 1st place, two 2nd place, and three 3rd place awards; and many more awards throughout her 45 year career as a teacher and principal. She recently retired and was able to travel for a few months before finding out of her diagnosis. She has taught and inspired many children in her career and was very dedicated to the kids she worked with. Her favorite pastimes were spending time with her family and granddaughter and shopping. She is survived by her parents, Evelyn and Eugene Hancock; husband, Paul Leonard; her son, Scott Leonard; and granddaughter, Evelyn 'Evie' Leonard. The family of Mrs. Teresa Ann Leonard will receive friends from 5 to 7 PM Sunday, December 27, 2015, in the Morris-Baker Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 7 PM with Pastor Lon Tobin officiating.Travis Thompson will provide the music. The graveside committal service will be conducted at 1 PM Monday, in the Mountain Home National Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Minister, family and friends are requested to meet at the funeral home by 12:15 PM Monday to go in procession to the cemetery.
