Thelma Booth Miller

Thelma Booth Miller, age 98, died Tuesday, September 14, 2010, at Lakebridge Health Care Center where she had resided for the past seven years. She was a native of Washington County, a daughter of the late J. Wallace and Junia Scott Booth. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Miller was preceded in death by her husband Elmer Miller, three sisters, Pearl Kyker, Mable Miller, and Kate Booth, and three brothers, J. Blaine Booth, Clay E. Booth, and Dewy Lee Booth, who died in infancy. She was a long time member of Snow Memorial Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Lamar High School of Jonesborough, TN., class of 1931, and was the last surviving member of the 1927-1928 LHS state division champion girls basketball team known as Kayte Koopers Killers. Survivors include four nieces, Lorene Kyker and Louise Jackson of Johnson City, Betty Richardson of Surprise, AZ, and Geraldine Greenwell of Jonesborough; four nephews, Charles M. Miller and Joe Ward Booth of Johnson City, Everette J. Miller of Unicoi, and Richard Booth of Florida; and a brother-in-law, Omer Miller, his daughter Karen and her husband Bob of Dixon, IL. Virginia Ann Maddox Stokes of Norton, VA, whom she loved as a daughter, also survives. Many nieces and nephews from her husbands family also survive. She was blessed with many good friends, including Julia Whitson of Johnson City, Loretta Johns of Jonesborough, and Floyd and Grace Royston of Johnson City. The family wishes to thank the loving caregivers Mrs. Miller had at Lakebridge during her stay there. The funeral service for Thelma Booth Miller will be conducted at 2 PM Thursday, September 16, 2010 in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Pastor Rusty Wishon and Floyd Royston will officiate. The graveside committal service will follow in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Kenneth Bourbon, Will Cole, Harold Walser, Terry Carden, George Boy and George Holly. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 PM Thursday prior to the service. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Cherokee Baptist Church Cemetery, In care of Geraldine Greenwell, 527 Meadowbrook Avenue, Jonesborough, Tn. 37659 or Snow Memorial Baptist Church, 2201 Knob Creek Road, Johnson City, Tn. 37604.
