Thelma J. Erwin, 89, 2101 Christian Lane, Johnson City, died Monday, April 23, 2007 in the Johnson City Medical Center following a brief illness. Mrs. Erwin was a native of Hopewell, Virginia who had lived in Port Arthur, Texas until 1947 and Washington, DC from 1970 to 1978 and has since lived in Johnson City. She was the daughter of the late William L. Fleming and Mattie Boone Fleming. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her first husband Onie M. Jones in 1966 and her second husband Walter Z. Erwin; one son, William T. Jones; two brothers, Jack Fleming and Jim Fleming. She was a public relations secretary at a hospital in Washington, DC and also was a assistant Librarian at Science Hill High School. Mrs. Erwin was a member of First Presbyterian Church. Survivors include: one son, Ronald H. Jones and his wife Miriam D., of Johnson City; one brother, Charles Fleming, of Bluff City; two grandsons, Chris Jones, of Johnson City and Deron Jones, of Sneads Ferry, NC. The graveside service for Thelma J. Erwin will be conducted at 3:15 PM Wednesday, April 25, 2007 in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Baron Eliason will officiate. Active pallbearers will be Harmon Duncan, Jr., Jim Hunter, Danny Story, Harry Harmon, Graham Norman, Dan Mahoney and Bobby Jobe. Honorary pallbearers will be Dick Johnson, Clyde Cooper, Jake Hodges and Dick Beeson, Jr. The family will receive friends in the funeral home from 2 to 3 PM Wednesday prior to the service. For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to First Presbyterian Church, 105 South Boone Street, Johnson City, Tn. 37604 or Dawn of Hope, 500 East Oakland Ave., Johnson City, Tn. 37601.
