Thelma Virginia Britt, 73, of 1023 Gray Station Road, Gray, went to be with the Lord on Friday, January 1, 2010 at the Johnson City Medical Center. She was a native of Unicoi, and a daughter of the late Frankie Tipton. Thelma was a retired employee of Siemens and had originally worked for Texas Instruments. Thelma was better known as ' Mamaw'? to her family and was a great fan of the Atlanta Braves, and listening to gospel music. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by: her husband in 1974, Hewlett 'Slim'? Britt; four brothers; two sisters; and two grandchildren, Chad Britt and Ashley Herman. Survivors include: a son, Charles Britt of Gray; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Ann and Ricky Cox of Johnson City, Kathy Gillette, Loretta and James Herman of Gray and Laura Britt Hathaway of Gray; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Gene and Ruby Tipton of Powder Branch, Ray and Jean Tipton of Gray; a sister, Myrtle McKee of Johnson City; eleven grandchildren, Haley Jones, Autumn Britt, Jennifer Gillette, J. D. Gillette, Andy Cox, Eddie Cox, Mickey Cox, Jessica Cox, Josh Herman and Chuckey Britt; nine great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, special friends, Sheri Tipton and the Goods; her special dog Dakota. A funeral service is scheduled for Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at 8 PM under the direction of Rev. Roy Yelton. The family will receive friends from 6 PM until time of service at 8 PM in the South Chapel of the Morris''Baker Funeral Home. A committal service will be conducted at 11 AM Thursday January 7, 2010 at the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be: Mickey, Eddie and Ricky Cox, Josh Good, Josh Herman, J. D. Gillette. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the funeral home by 10:30 AM to leave in procession to the cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Childrens Miracle Network or the American Cancer Society.
