Thomas M. Gardner, 74, 152 Hudson Drive, Gray, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, May 12, 2005, in the Veterans Affairs Medical Center at Mountain Home. Mr. Gardner was a native of Johnson City and was a son of the late Grace Gardner Nave, who passed away in 2000. Mr. Gardner was a graduate of Science Hill High School. He was a Army veteran of Korea and Vietnam. Mr. Gardner entered military service in 1949 and retired in the 1980s to San Antonio, Texas. In May 2004, Mr. Gardner returned to his native Johnson City to be near his daughters. He is preceded in death by his mother, Grace Gardner Nave; Step-Father, Robert E. 'Gigger' Nave, in 1969; his first wife, Doris Gardner Harmon, in 1998; and his second wife, Edith Gardner, in 2000. Survivors include: two daughters, Joni Gardner and Janice Gardner Nelson, both of Gray; five adopted children, Danny Gardner, Bobby Gardner, Debbie Gardner, Tasha Gardner and Beverly Gardner, all living in the San Antonio, TX area; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; two uncles, Jessee Carathers, of Florida, and John Carathers, of Johnson City; one aunt, Dorothy Gamble, of Florida. Funeral service will be in the South Chapel Saturday at 3:00 PM. Rev. Kenneth Hartley will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM. Burial will be at a later date in San Antonio, Texas.
