Velma Hyder Adams, age 78,of Johnson City died Thursday, February 22, 2007 at her residence. She was a native of Carter County, daughter of the late David 'Roger' Hyder and Sallie Range Hyder. She was employed in the purchasing department, as well as other departments of the North American Rayon Corp., and also Beaunit, Inc. until 1962. She lived in North Carolina, Virginia and Louisiana for a number of years, as well as Nashville, Tennessee before returning to Johnson City. She was a member of the East Unaka Christian Church, Johnson City. Velma enjoyed Gospel music, Big Band music and sports, including football, men?s and women?s basketball and enjoyed bowling. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, W.L. 'Bill' Adams, in 2002, two brothers, Gordon Hyder and Jack Range Hyder, a sister, Vivian Hyder Hayes a nephew, Eddie Hayes, a great nephew, Joshua Hayes and a sister - in - law, Hazel Capps Hyder. Survivors include a brother, 'Billy' Haroldean Hyder and his wife Shirley, Cincinnati, Ohio, a sister - in - law, Maxine Buckles Hyder, Elizabethton, four nieces: Pam Lewis and husband Doyle and Sandra Hyder all of Greer, SC, Tammy Williams and her husband Richard of Newnan, GA, Donna Rogers and her husband Richard of Wentzville, MO., there are five nephews, Steve Hayes and wife Jody, Piney Flats, David Hyder of Orlando, FL, Mickey Hyder and wife Lou Ann of Lexington, KY and Jim Hyder and Mary of Florence, KY, Jeff Hyder and wife Karla of Cleveland, TN and an aunt, Nellie Pospiech, Inverness, FL. several aunts, cousins and special friends, Mary Sue Sanders and Janice and Ronnie Lee. The funeral service is scheduled for Monday, February 26, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. in the North Chapel of the Morris - Baker Funeral Home under the direction of Dr. Wayne Emery with her brother, Billy Haroldean Hyder providing the eulogy. Tammy and Richard Williams, Mrs. Adams neice and nephew will sing. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until time of service at two A committal service will be following the service in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be her nephews; Steve Hayes, David Hyder, Mickey Hyder, Jim Hyder, Jeff Hyder and Richard Williams. Honorary pallbearers will be: Glenn Lambert, Hugh Bellamy, Daryl Ferrell, Clarence Chase, Duane Cross and Ivan Dempsey. In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Adams requested memorials in the form of contributions to: the E. Unaka Christian Church, 1201 E. Unaka Ave., Johnson City, TN 37601, the American Heart Association, 208 Sunset Drive, Johnson City, TN 37604 or the American Cancer Society, 508 Princeton Road, Ste. 102, Johnson City, TN 37601.
