Verna C. Shipley

Verna C. Shipley age 87, of 144 Alison Road, Piney Flats, died at her residence Tuesday, September 6th, 2005. She was a native of Sullivan County and had lived most of her life in Sullivan County. She was the daughter of the late David Shipley and the late Matilda Anderson Shipley. Mrs. Shipley had been employed by Leon Ferenbach, Inc. for 50 years prior to her retirement. She was a member of Piney Flats First Baptist Church. Mrs. Shipley was preceded in death by five sisters, 3 brothers, and one nephew. She is survived by one sister, Trula Martin of the home, five nephews, Jimmy Martin of Johnson City, Bob Martin of Collierville, Tennessee, Arnold Shipley of Piney Flats, Harley Bays of Gray, Tennessee and Kenneth Bays of Elizabethton; seven nieces, Shelby Davis, of Elizabethton, Linda Ford, of Johnson City, Charlotte Isley, Roberta Jetter, Brenda Simpson, Anna Ruth Hicks and Juanita Ensor, all of Piney Flats, nineteen great nieces and nephews and several great great nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mrs. Shipley will be held Thursday, September 8th at 8:00 PM at Morris-Baker Funeral Home South Chapel. Dr. Allen Davis and Rev. Reed Mullins will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Thursday, prior to the service. Graveside services and burial will be Friday at 11:00 AM at Monte Vista Burial Park. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home at 10:30 to go in procession to the cemetery. Pallbearers will be Arnold Shipley, Hansel Ensor, Ralph Hicks, Harley Bays, Harvey Jetter and Jack Davis. Honorary pallbearers will be other nephews, Ronald Cross and the men of Piney Flats First Baptist Church.
