Virginia Ellen Shanks

Virginia Ellen Shanks, 84, of the Stockton Residential Home for the Elderly, Roan Mountain, died Saturday at her residence. She was a native of Washington County, daughter of the late, Thomas E. and Georgia Haws Shanks, the youngest of nine children, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Blaine Fox and Julia Ruth Taylor; and six brothers, Clifford, Cecil, Joe, Thomas, Bill and Willis Shanks. Survivors include many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. A graveside service is scheduled for Tuesday, September 20, 2005 in the Mount Bethel Christian Church Cemetery, Limestone, at 4:00 p.m. under the direction of Rev. Toonie Cash. Music will be provided by, Kyle Jackson. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Following visitation, there will be a procession to the cemetery . Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends assembled for the visitation.
