Vivian Day Kelly

March 12, 1923 — October 11, 2007

Vivian Day Kelly, 84, #4 Lara Court, Johnson City, Tennessee, died Thursday October 11, 2007 in the Johnson City Medical Center. She was the daughter of the late Nannie Byrd Day and the late John Harvey Day. She was a native of Johnson City and lived for 35 years in California before moving back to Johnson City. Prior to her time in California she had lived in Oak Ridge where she worked on the Manhattan Project and also on a research project at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. She also worked for the United States Atomic Energy Commission at the University of California in Berkley, California and at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center, Stanford University at Stanford, California. Mrs. Kelly was a graduate of Science Hill High School and attended East Tennessee State University. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Johnson City and also was a member of Menlo-Atherton Club in California. She was a previous member of the Johnson City and Oak Ridge Symphony Orchestras. She was preceded in death by five brothers, one sister and one infant sister. She was preceded in death by her husband Louis L. Kelly in 1980. Survivors are three brothers, Garnett Day, of Johnson City, Charles Day of Abingdon, Virginia and Frank Day of Clifton Park, New York; two sisters, Ruth Rickman and Jessie Day both of Johnson City; several nieces and nephews survive. Graveside services will be held Saturday, October 13, 2007 at 1PM in the Oak Hill Cemetery. Mr. Kent Petit will officiate. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery at 12:45 PM Saturday. For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 105 South Boone Street, Johnson City, Tn. 37604.
