Walter G. Ball, 70, of Johnson City, died Saturday, March 18, 2006 at the Johnson City Medical Center. Mr. Ball was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County, son of the late Neil Ball and Mattie R. Ball Cole. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving first wife, Dorothea Ramsey Ball. He was supervisor of the carpentry shop of the East Tennessee State University. Walter was interested in bowling, golf and racing and was an avid dirt track racer and had won several area championships. He was a member and elder of the Buffalo Valley Christian Church. Survivors include: his wife, Glenda C. Ball of the home; two daughters, Bonnie & husband Lee 'Tinker' Stanley of Jonesborough, Linda & husband Darrell Lett of Gray; a son, Walter Dale & wife Phyllis Ball of Johnson City; four grandchildren, Amanda Hope, Dolly Ball, Dotty Ball and Blake Lett; two great granddaughters, Riley Hope and Avery Hope; two step-sons, Steven & wife Jamie Tate of Jonesborough and Kevin & wife Sherry Tate of Concord, NC; two step-grandchildren, Sam and Annie Tate; a sister, Melba & husband Gale Lowe of Johnson City; a brother, Robert & wife Florence Ball of Jonesborough; several nieces and nephews. A funeral service is scheduled for Monday, March 20, 2006 at 8:00 p.m. in the South Chapel of the Morris - Baker Funeral Home, under the direction of Mr. Eric Evans and Mr. David Slayton. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until time of service at eight. A committal service will be conducted on Tuesday, March 21, 2006 at the Roselawn Memory Gardens at 10:00 a.m. family and friends are asked to assemble at the funeral home to leave in procession at 9:30 a.m. Active pallbearers will be: Terry Miller, Mike Potter, Kenneth Foster, Dale McCrackin, Bryan Burleson and Louie Hopkins. Honorary pallbearers will be: all racing, golfing and bowling buddies and his church family.
