Walter J. Myers

Walter J. Myers, 85, Elizabethton, went to be with the Lord, his wife and a host of family and friends, Wednesday, February 18, 2009 at the Johnson City Medical Center. Mr. Myers was a native of Carter County but had lived most of his life in Johnson City. He was a son of the late Henry D. and Cora Shoun Myers. Mr. Myers was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel D. Myers, one son, Kenneth Richard Myers, one sister, Anna Burton; two brothers, T.N. Myers and Henry E. Myers and a niece and nephew. He worked as a grocery broker throughout the region for the Service Candy Company, the Sunshine Biscuit Company and retired on April 30, 1987 from Consolidated Sales. Mr. Myers served his country during WWII as a member of the 8th Air Force, US Army Air Corps. He was the last surviving crew member of the B-17 'Pandoras Box'? and flew 33 missions over Europe. He was a devoted church worker and former member of Unaka Avenue Baptist Church, North Johnson City Baptist Church and a current member of Hunter Memorial Baptist Church. Survivors include two daughters, Gail Myers, Elizabethton and Norma Myers Riddle and her husband, Ken, Hampton, one sister-in-law and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service for Mr. Myers will be conducted at 8 PM Thursday, February 19, 2009 from the Morris-Baker Funeral Home North Chapel. Reverend Paul Richey will officiate. Music will be provided by Terry Ward and Ray Bowman. Graveside services will be held at 1 PM Friday at Monte Vista Memorial Park. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Thursday at the funeral home and at other times at the home of his daughter, Gail, 158 Echo Drive, Elizabethton. (423)282-1521 is serving the family.
