Wanda V. Mitchell

July 11, 1944 — May 16, 2014

Wanda Vinson Mitchell, 69, Johnson City, TN, went to her heavenly home on Friday, May 16, 2014, surrounded by her loving family. Wanda taught math at Science Hill High School in Johnson City, for 23 years. She was an inspiration to all her students. Wanda retired from teaching in 2007, the same year she received the 'Teacher of the Year'? award. Reading was her favorite hobby as well as spending time with her grandchildren. Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, Jess and Connie Vinson, Cadiz, KY; and a son, Kevin Mitchell. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Ronald W. Mitchell; two daughters, Krista Mitchell, and companion Mike Thompson (Johnson City), Kyme Mitchell White, and husband, Dave White (Knoxville); and five grandchildren, Brandon Linkous, Ben and Ely Leonard (Johnson City); Saryn and Saxen White (Knoxville, TN). Also surviving are 3 sisters: Nita Mott, Fountain Hills, AZ, Jessica Siegmund, Cadiz, KY, and Stephanie Perry, Cadiz, KY, aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews. She is also survived by a daughter-in-kind, Clarice Zoggyie, West Ghana. A life celebration service will be held in Cadiz, KY, on Thursday, May 22, 10:00 am, at the Cadiz Christian Church. Memorial service will be held in Johnson City, TN, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Shepherd Center, Atlanta, GA. The donation may be specified for the Patient Care Fund by going to the web site www.shepherd.org under Giving. A special thanks to Dr. Scott Dulebohn, his associates, and all the staff of the 4300 wing at the Johnson City Medical Center who gave such loving and wonderful care to Wanda.
