Wilber T Kennedy

Dr. Wilber T. (Ken) Kennedy, 90, of Johnson City, died Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at the Appalachian Christian Village. He was a native of Johnson City, born January 19, 1921, son of the late Dr. Wilber T. and Ruby E. Walker Kennedy. He was a graduate of Johnson City Public Schools and very active in Science Hill High School ROTC program as Corps Commander. Dr. Kennedy was employed by Hamilton National Bank in 1939 then enlisted in the U. S. Army in 1941. He completed Officers Candidate School in 1943 and served domestically until he was sent overseas to the South Pacific Theatre. He was discharged with two battle stars. Dr. Kennedy attended ETSU in 1946 to 47 and graduated Iowa State College of Veterinary Medicine in 1952. He practiced veterinary medicine with Youngs Animal Hospital in Johnson City until retirement in 1987. He achieved life membership in the American Veterinary Medical Association and Southern Veterinary Medical Federation. Dr. Kennedy was a lifelong member and deacon of Central Baptist Church. He served as Boy Scout Merit Badge Counselor for the Sequoyah Council. He also was a member of the Rotary club from 1955 to 1991 and served as president from 1968 to 69. He attended District Conferences for 17 years and attended the Rotary International Meeting in Hawaii as representative of our club. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Renelle Goodin Kennedy in July of 2004. Dr. Kennedy is survived by his daughter, Pat Kennedy of Johnson City. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at the Morris '? Baker Funeral Home. A graveside service is scheduled for Friday, December 2, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in the Monte Vista Memorial Park, under the direction of Dr. Ron Murray. Military honors will be accorded by the Boone Dam VFW and the Tennessee National Guard. Honorary pallbearers will be: Harry Harmon, Cecil Green, C.C. Marshall and John 'Duke'? Hall. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the cemetery by 9:45 a.m. on Friday.
