Wiley James Hamby

Wiley James Hamby, 87, 385 Grassy Valley Road, died Tuesday, August 30, 2005 at the James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Mr. Hamby was a native of Johnson County and had lived in Johnson City most of his life. He was a son of the late Charlie C. Hamby and Callie Dowell Hamby and was also preceded in death by his wife, Mamey Ruth Head Hamby and two brothers, Simon Hamby and Charles Hamby. Mr. Hamby was a retired carpenter. He was a WWII US Navy veteran. Mr. Hamby was a member of Piney Grove Free Will Baptist Church. Survivors include one son, Ronnie Hamby, Johnson City; two daughters, Judy Carr, Johnson City and Linda Campbell, Fredrick, MD; two step-daughters, Shirlene Andrews, Fredericksburg, VA and Kathy Henthorne, Knoxville, TN; two step-sons, Edward Julian, Elizabethton and Michael Julian, Ottawa, Canada; two brothers, Luke Hamby and Wade Hamby both of Johnson City; three sisters, Inez Hamby, Charlotte, NC, Christine Hicks, Johnson City and Thelma Ruland, New Holland, PA; several grandchildren, step grandchildren, step great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A funeral service for Mr. Hamby will be conducted at 2 PM Friday at Piney Grove Free Will Baptist Church. Reverend Paul Crowe will officiate. Graveside services will follow at Monte Vista Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Edward Bowman, Lee Carr, Dale Sercey, Donnie Humphries and Mink Ramsey. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Thursday at the funeral home.
