William Arthur Wiley, Jr.

William Arthur Wiley, Jr. MD, age 89 years of Johnson City died on June 10, 2020.

He was born on February 3, 1931, to the late William A. Wiley, Sr. and Virginia Walker Wiley.

Dr. Wiley was educated in the Johnson City School System and graduated from Science Hill High School in 1949. He attended ETSU, UT in Knoxvillle and graduated from the UT Medical School in Memphis in 1956. He interned at Greenville General Hospital in Greenville, SC before joining the United States Air Force in 1956. After two years of service at the military hospital on Mitchell Field Air Base on Long island, New York he returned to Johnson City and began a general family medical practice. Six years later, Dr. Wiley moved with his family to Charlottesville, VA to begin a three year residency in psychiatry. He found his place in the practice of psychiatry which lasted for fifty-two years in the same office.

Dr. Wiley was predeceased by two sons, William A. Wiley, III, and Charles Linwood Wiley.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Pat, a sister Ellen Wiley Sells of Nashville, his remaining son, Christopher Denman Wiley and wife Michelle Moncier Wiley; his grandson who devoted his life to his grandfather, William A. Wiley, IV; special daughter-in-law Freta Sparks Wiley who was his secretary and practice manager; grandsons Alexander Terrell Wiley, Christopher D. Wiley, Jr and wife Katie Anthony Wiley and son Christopher D. Wiley III, Brandon Keen and partner Grace Mullins, children Chloe Keen and Holden Keen; Granddaughter, Laura Bryant Grindstaff; Great Granddaughter Erin Grindstaff and son Liam; special cousin Mary Charles Williams Wilson; Nephews, David Sells, Dr. Sam R. Sells, III and wife Vicki Sells; Niece, Betsy Sells, Wiley, Jr and Lauren Sells.

His foremost passion in life was medicine. He had a great deal of respect for his patients and considered his service to them his highest honor.

There will be a family graveside service with the Rev. Jeff Moncier officiating.
