William Joseph Bennett

April 17, 1926 — September 30, 2005

William 'Bill' J. Bennett, 79, of Jonesborough passed away Friday, September 30, 2005, at the Quillen V.A. Extended Care Unit after a lengthy battle with Parkinson?s Disease. He was a native of Washington County and had lived here most of his life. He was a son of the late Bernie and Mable Rush Bennett. He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Vickie Ann Bennett, one son, William S. Bennett and one sister, Francis Rose. He retired from Free Service Truck Tire Center. Mr. Bennett was a Deacon and long time member of Sinking Creek Baptist Church. Survivors include;his wife of 56 years, Mary Elizabeth Bennett; one son, Tony L. Bennett and his wife, Donna of Murfreesboro, TN; two daughters, Sandra Maddux and her husband, John of Clifton, VA and Rebecca Washington and her husband, J.D. of Gray; one brother, Jimmy Bennett of Johnson City; three sisters, Mildred Britt, Judy Walker and Nancy Kimbrough all of Johnson City; several grandchildren, step-grandchildren and great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 PM Monday from the Sinking Creek Baptist Church. Rev. Reece Harris will officiate. Burial will follow in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Sunday. Online condolences may be sent to the family via www.morrisbaker.com.
