William Lee Debter

January 30, 1924 — June 28, 2007

William Lee Debter, 83, of 132 Rockhouse Road, Jonesborough, died Thursday, June 28, 2007 at the Johnson City Medical Center. He was a native of Cullman County, Alabama, son of the late Neil Gilbert and Lottie Arnold Debter. William was retired from the Power Board of Chicago, Illinois. He was a veteran of WWII having served in the U.S. Army and was of the Baptist faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Frances Debter Blanton and Eloise Debter Lowe; two brothers, George Ralph Debter and Charles Ray Debter. Survivors include: his wife of sixty years, Mary Haynie Debter of the home; four nieces and three nephews-in-law, Patty Davis of Rocky Mount, NC, Martha L. and Horace May of Red Oak, NC, Karen L. and James Wallace of Evens, GA, Kathy and Charles Lyons of Jonesborough; a nephew, Steven A. Lowe of Rocky Mount, NC; his Red Barn Music friends; special friends, Marcella and James Bennett, Ed and Alice Sturgell, Sandy Baker and Lisa Nassar. A funeral is scheduled for Saturday, June 30, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. in the South Chapel of the Morris '' Baker Funeral Home under the direction of Rev. D.C. Byrd. The family will receive friends, Friday, June 29, 2007 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 12:00 p.m. until time of service at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow in the Monte Vista Memorial Park and military honors will be provided by the Kingsport VFW #3382. Active pallbearers will be: James Bennett, Jimmy Bennett, Ed Sturgell, Sylvester Phipps, Frank Culler and Luther Morton. Honorary pallbearers will be: Larry Higgins, Marshall Vines, Burl Mast and Sandy Patoak. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the following caregivers throughout Williams illness: Dr. Scott Watson, Dr. William Kincaid, Dr. Rachel Monderer, the nurses on 5500 wing of the Johnson City Medical Center; special caregivers and neighbors.
