Willie Ruth Williams

Willie 'Billie'? Ruth Baxter Williams, age 85, of 223 Sinking Creek Road, Johnson City, Tennessee, died Wednesday, December 19th at Johnson City Medical Center. She was a native of Chestnut Hill, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Sarah Jane Hicks Baxter and the late William Alexander Baxter. Mrs. Williams was a member of East Unaka Christian Church. She was a United States Navy Veteran of World War II. Mrs. Williams loved her family and her church and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Her family remembers her as being the glue that held the family together. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Anne Baxter Bailey; her husband, Jack Q. Williams and three sisters, Ola Thomas, Alma Thornton and Eldridge Smelcer. She is survived by one son, George A. Williams and his wife Peggy P. Williams of Kingsport; one grandson, Jack D. Williams and his wife Nicki of Kingsport; three granddaughters, Laura Victors of Kingsport; Kari Meldrum and her husband David of Lugoff, South Carolina and Wendy Merry and her husband Greg of Evarts, Georgia; ten grandchildren and several nieces. Funeral services for Mrs. Williams will be held Saturday, 2:00 PM, December 22, 2007 at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. Mr. Wayne Emery will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from noon until 2:00 on Saturday. Friends may call at other times at Mrs. Williams home at 223 Sinking Creek Road. Following the service, graveside services and burial will be at Happy Valley Memorial Park in Elizabethton. Pallbearers will be Bill Foster, Bill Potter, David McKinney, Daniel Williams, Matt Foster, Frank Q. Williams, Greg Merry, David Meldrum and Gordon Williams. Great grandsons will be honorary pallbearers.
