Jonesborough, Tennessee

Listen to Obituary

Betty Lou Greene, 85, of Jonesborough, entered the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, April 16, 2026. Her final moments on this earth were filled with the cherished love of her family and the whispered words of her favorite hymns. She was ready to go home.

Born May 6, 1940, she was the daughter of the late John and Martha Stines. "You can never go wrong when you help somebody," something Betty's father told her and taught her through his example that shaped the beautiful lady she was. Betty was known for her kind ways and her gentle spirit. A member of Pinecrest Baptist Church, she spent her life serving the Lord and loving everyone in her life. Her whole heart belonged to her beloved husband, family, and cherished loved ones. Betty was always the best-dressed, down to her matching shoes, and was known for her wonderful cooking. She was always ready to share a hug, a laugh, a prayer, and a good time. No one ever left her home without a full heart and belly.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her three brothers, Ed, Duke, and Jerry Stines. Betty is survived by her loving husband of 65 years James Greene; her sister Birdie Mae; her two children Carrie Lewis and her husband Jeff, and Keith Greene and his wife Tanya; her grandchildren Matthew and his wife Amy, Alyssa and her husband Jarrod, Josh and his wife Bethany, Zachary, Emily and her husband Luke, Seth and his wife Hannah, Jeremiah and his wife Allison, and Mike and his wife Sydney; and her precious great-grandchildren Ava, Logan, Karson, Olivia, Isabella, Alexis, Mayson, Dorian, and Elena. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews; cherished friends Fred and Linda Malone, Garry and Sarah Edwards, Shelby and Cliff Hoy, and Kim Hamilton; and her dear church family. Her love and legacy will be carried on by all those who knew her.

Betty’s family will receive friends from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. A funeral will immediately follow, under the direction of Pastor Garry Edwards. A graveside service will commence at 2:00 pm at Monte Vista Memorial Park.
